Inside Out: Malthouse

Inside Out: Yirramboi: Malthouse Theatre

Carissa Lee is in Inside Out.

Comedy Theatre – Three independent First Nation women live together in a share house in the city. All in pursuit of their dream. Each finds themselves facing obstacles of life, love and work. Battling racism, head on and tearing down systemic racism from within their chosen fields. With the support of each other they are able to overcome any problems big or small.

You see each question? How do I fit in both worlds and not be a puppet for the patriarchy to play? Blak women are far too often underappreciated, sidelined and spoken over. In this darling new work these three unique women will stop at nothing to right wrongs done and pave a new path in this farce dramatic comedy.

Bay Of Fires

Bay Of Fires

Kim Ko is in Bay of Fires.

Starring alongside Marta is acclaimed actress Kerry Fox (Conversations with Friends), Toby Leonard Moore (Billions), Rachel House (Stateless), Yael Stone (Orange is the New Black), Tony Barry (Harrow), Oscar Redding (The Twelve), Bob Franklin (Please Like Me), Roslyn Hammond (Mad As Hell),  Kim Ko (Wentworth)  and Rhys Muldoon (Les Norton).

Bay of Fires is a new eight-part crime/thriller drama series for the ABC which has been filmed on the West Coast of Tasmania in 2022. It will air in 2023.

Set in the wilds of Tasmania, Marta plays the lead character Stella Heikkinen whose fall from grace is as spectacular as it is life threatening.

Betrayed and in immediate danger – Stella has no option but to move her young family to the last place on earth anyone would expect. This town isn’t the kind of place they put on postcards, this is a tiny community rife with simmering feuds, crime and sometimes, murder.

Archipelago Productions Founder and CEO Marta Dusseldorp says “The opportunity to collaborate and create an original Australian drama with the extraordinary Andrew Knight and Max Dann has been an amazing journey. Executive Producer Greg Sitch and Producer Yvonne Collins, along with Sally Riley, Louise Smith and the entire team at the ABC have been paramount to bringing Bay of Fires into being. Archipelago Productions partnering with Fremantle Australia is a natural fit and with Screen Tasmania, Screen Australia and Film Victoria’s belief and investment we are now preparing for production on the beautifully rugged West Coast of Tasmania in 2022.”

Finally Me

Finally Me

Jazz Laker is Soula leading in Finally Me by Jason Stevens.

By Film Ink: Landing the plum role of Soula is newcomer and NIDA graduate Jazz Laker. “When I first read the script, I immediately felt drawn to Soula,” the young actress says. “She resonates so deeply within me. She has a very clear dream, and has this sass that just makes you love her. But she has to face so many people telling her that she isn’t capable, she isn’t right, and that she should stick to her lane. That is something a lot of people can empathise with, especially when your dreams seem so big and scary to others. The most magical moments come when you push past everyone who tells you no, and then prove them wrong.”

Set in the 1990s in the competitive world of high school cheerleading, Soula defies her father’s dream for her to take over the family souvlaki business and finds herself chosen to lead her team to victory despite being a complete novice and far from the stereotypical cheerleader.
